What Caused the Great War? Assignment - DUE TUESDAY (Sept 27)

Hi everyone,

here are the details that accompany the "What Caused the Great War" assignment:


ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

1) read the handout alongside pgs. 41-top of 47 of your Student Workbook
-> make notes as you go directly on your handout

2) AFTER you have read about each of the seven potential causes, rank them in order, #1-7, of what you think is the #1 most
significant cause responsible down to #7, the least significant. Be sure you consider the following possibilities:

-Imperialism
-Militarism
-Nationalism
-Alliances
-Assassination
-German responsibility
-Biblical perspective (sinful human motives e.g. greed, envy, jealousy etc.)

-> #1 Reason = this was THE MAIN REASON that the Great War started
-> #2 Reason = this was the LEAST SIGNIFICANT reason that the Great War started

3) You should be able to defend your #1 choice by using specific pieces of evidence and evidence provided in your texbooks
and from the handout given in class.


HELPFUL HINTS TO KEEP IN MIND:

1) Who wrote it?

-credentials?
-background?
-bias/motive?
-purpose?

2) What is left out?

-WHY has a certain perspective been left out? Whose voice is missing?
-WHY has specific information been left out?

You must be prepared and have any materials that you would like to have with you for your Socials block on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th.

This is an assignment that YOU CANNOT HAND IN LATE, as we discussed in our first class. You must have it completed for the Sept 27th; you will be assessed on whatever you can present on the spot if you are absent or have not completed this assignment for the 27th.
