"Why do you learn about Social Studies"?

The emphasis of this question is on the WHY. I'm looking for the most thoughtful answer...not the answer that you think I want to hear or will like the best..what do YOU actually think about this question? Be prepared to explain your answer. If you're stuck, consider the following:

-Do I take SS 11 because I have to? Because the government says I have to? Because I need it to graduate?
-Is there actually a point to learning about this stuff?
-Are there any short or long-term benefits for me personally in learning about this?
-Does learning about history and the past matter?
-Is it important?
-Is there a relationship between learning about Social Studies and being a believer?
